President Arlene Abbott called the meeting to order at 4:11 p.m.
President Abbott noted and thanked Karen Bland for the excellent job for the April minutes. Karen noted a couple of ÒtypoÓ corrections, but no changes or corrections to the body of the minutes. There were no changes or corrections noted at the meeting. Annie Horey moved to approve the April minutes as written, seconded by Joy Neal. Motion passed by unanimous vote.
Treasurer Annie Horey reviewed the Balance Sheet and Transaction Report. Treasurer Horey also gave a synopsis of the wellness seminar and expenses. All present approved the treasurerÕs report with no changes.
President Abbott shared an email that she received from Marilyn Hoppen, SHRM Regional Manager, that our chapter had been awarded the 2003 Superior Merit Award. Ms. Hoppen advised that, by achieving this award, our chapter has demonstrated excellence in chapter operations! President Abbott gave a big Òthank youÓ to Lynn Bourton, 2003 AVHRA president, who in turn shared that it was the 2003 board who worked together and all deserve the recognition.
President Abbott asked Janice Soder to please forward the award information with the Wenatchee Business Journal. Janice said she would.
NHRMA Awards 2004 Ð Joy talked about the several different awards in which we can nominate persons (Distinguished Member Award, Robert W Denomy Award, Randy Lundberg Award). Discussion followed regarding criteria for each award. AVHRA has never received one of these awards, but we are worthy and should apply. A committee was formed to work on the award applications: Lynn Bourton, Barbara Davis and Arlene Abbott.
NHRMA Conference Ð Joy advised the conference is scheduled for Sept. 13Ð15, at Semiahmoo. It is too early to register for the conference, however she encouraged any person who is planning on attending to make a reservation at Semiahmoo as soon as possible, as the hotel fills up very quickly.
State Council Meeting Ð May 7th Ð Joy attended this meeting and talked about how changes are affecting our Chapter members. We have one international representative who keeps us updated on global issues. Next year, the legislative conference is scheduled for March 1st, and the international representative has been asked to speak at one of the breakout sessions.
School to Work Ð Joy has a list of potential speakers regarding the school-to-work subject. She will forward that information to Lisa Turner.
Bulletin Board Ð Joy advised that we should have some type of portable bulletin board or something which can be transported to meetings, etc., in which to display the many awards that our chapter is incurring. There was a lot of discussion, however, no solutions. It was discussed to display the trophy-type awards at the head table, and possibly the banner awards on an easel board.
Joan Lovitt advised that AVHRA applied for a $2,400 scholarship to be used toward the purchase of four SHRM learning systems for the AVHRA certification program. Joan advised that we would still have the group sessions, and the learning systems would be for the use of the study group participants.
President Abbott will contact Karen Bland and Joy Neal to discuss these scholarships as soon as she has time available.
q May will be a luncheon meeting, with special guest speaker Javier Lozano, SHRM Pacific West Region. Mr. Lozano will speak on leadership diversity. Lynn suggested we do some type of applely thing for him. Joy Neal and Annie Horey will put together a basket-o-goodies.

q Annie Horey moved that AVHRA co-sponsor with NCRL in the amount of $500, AVHRA members would be entitled to register for member rate of $50 per person, and non-members would register at the rate of $65 per person. Motion was seconded by Sylvia Martinez. Motion passed by unanimous vote.
q Joy advised that all enrollment member information be sent through NCRL.
q The workshop will be advertised through the AVHRA newsletter.
q The workshop will be credit certifiable. Joy will forward information to Jo Ann Tucker.
q President Abbott advised that Rich Hamilton, who does workshops on customer service, leadership, etc., can do a workshop for a cost of $6,500 (including airfare) Ð and AVHRA pays his per diem and hotel costs.
q Mr. Hamilton forwarded reference recommendation information to her, and she sent questionnaires to the three listed references. President Abbott received two responses, in which she reviewed their responses with the Board.
q Mr. Hamilton would blend three workshops into one in one half-day seminar: customer service, managing people, and maintaining positive flow Ð business strategy and leadership.
