Board Meeting Ð September 7, 2004

President Arlene Abbott called the meeting to order at 4:05 p.m.
Karen Bland reported that there were some grammatical changes made. There were no other changes or corrections noted. Annie Horey moved to approve the August 2004 minutes with corrections noted, seconded by Joan Lovitt. Motion passed.
¤ Treasurer Annie Horey reviewed the Balance Sheet and Transaction Report. Discussion followed.
¤ Karen Bland submitted an invoice from Eric West for licensure renewal of the AVHRA website.
¤ President Abbott advised a check in the amount of $30 was forwarded to the Wenatchee Valley Chamber of Commerce to list AVHRA in the Chamber directory.
¤ CONGRATULATIONS to Joy Neal on her nomination as the NHRMA Foundation Chair. She will be installed in January 2005. Her duties will consist of running the silent auction at the 2005 NHRMA Convention.
¤ State Council attendees: Gil Sparks and Joy Neal.
¤ NRHMA Convention attendees: Joy Neal, Gil Sparks, Annie Horey, Sylvia Martinez, Connie Fritz, and Melissa Wear-Grimm.
¤ NHRMA Auction:
q Melissa Wear-Grimm is putting together a gift basket (per Annie Horey).
q Joy Neal is bringing a basket, which was left over from the August meeting with Steve Hanamura.
q Gil Sparks is donating a book entitled Hire with Your Head, by Lou Alder.
¤ Legislative Ð Cami Glatt accepted a position down in the Tri-Cities; therefore, the Legislative Chair position is now vacant.
¤ Diversity Ð The Diversity board chair position has been vacant since Elaine Gentillo accepted a position in March 2004 as the HR Manager at Peninsula Light and Power, Gig Harbor. The Diversity Chair position continues to be vacant.
Steve Hanamura spoke on ÒUnderstanding and Managing the Dynamics of DiversityÓ on August 11th. He was very good! There were between 50 Ð 60 people in attendance, feedback was good. His program brings an immediate self-awareness exercise.
A big THANK YOU to the Library for allowing AVHRA to be included in this program!!
Lisa Turner advised we are Ògood to goÓ with Mary Miller from the Dept. of Labor & Industries who will do a presentation on school to work. Annie Horey will advise President Abbott of number of RSVPÕs as of Friday, September 10th. Jo Ann Tucker advised this meeting does not qualify for certification credits.
Gil Sparks advised he will do a legal update on October 21st.
¤ President Abbott shared that we have submitted the $1,000 deposit to Rich Hamilton to do a seminar on customer service, scheduled for the November 18th meeting. President Abbott advised the balance is due upon seminar date.
¤ Mr. Hamilton will submit an invoice for food expense reimbursement separately.
¤ President Abbott advised Mr. Hamilton signed off on the contract language revision in the event Richard Hamilton cancels the customer service seminar, a full refund will be made to AVHRA.
¤ Mr. Hamilton will send promotional kit to promote the program. President Abbott will contact him to request he send this kit as soon as possible. As soon as materials are received, she will put together a promo ad and email to Board members for review.
¤ Gil advised that he will contact the Wenatchee World and the Business Journal to see if they will co-sponsor by placing ads in exchange for seats available for charitable organizations.
¤ Lynn Bourton advised she will contact Kathy Mertes at WorkSource Wenatchee to get a copy of their mailing list.
¤ Jo Ann Tucker will submit the seminar for certification credits.
¤ Continental breakfast will be provided: coffee, tea, fruit, Danishes, etc.
¤ Discussion regarding registration costs per person. It was decided:
q Pre-paid: $75 Member / $99 Non-Member
q Three or More: $70 Member / $90 Non-Member
December
DecemberÕs meeting will be the silent auction.
¤ September 30th Ð Nomination call closes.
¤ October 5th Ð Nomination list complied by Board
¤ October general meeting Ð October 21st Ð membership vote.
As reported under TreasurerÕs Report, AVHRA will be listed in the Wenatchee Valley ChamberÕs directory at a cost of $30.
President Abbott read aloud a letter received from Lisa Romine, Managing Director of SkillSource, thanking AVHRA for the $100 donation to the Expand Their Minds and Explore Their Futures conference.
¤ Business Journal Ð President Abbott and Jo Ann Tucker will meet with Darlene Schneider next Tuesday, September 14th, to showcase AVHRA. (Barb Davis may also be able to attend this meeting.) Jo Ann also scheduled a meeting with Ms. Schneider in January 2005 to talk about 2005 programs.
¤ Leadership Conference Ð Bruce Bennett of the Business Journal sent a copy of the Leadership Conference to President Abbott. Gil Sparks will work with Bruce on sponsorship for the October and November meetings.
¤ YWCA Ð President Abbott asked, do we want to sponsor another YWCA scholarship? Discussion followed. Annie Horey made a motion: AVHRA sponsor a $150 scholarship to the YWCA for the "Working Life Skills for Women" program. Motion seconded by Barbara Davis. Motion Passed.
¤ AWB Website Ð President Abbott asked, do we want to add a link onto AVHRAÕs website? All present indicated YES (also note Motion in August minutes). Lynn Bourton will discuss this with Eric West.
¤ Barbara Davis inquired about the Randy Lundberg Award. President Abbott explained why she thought the Anchorage chapter won this award.
¤ President Abbott also shared that five separate chapters nominated Joy Neal for the 2004 Distinguished Member Award!! Congratulations Joy!
¤ Treasurer Horey submitted a Non-Profit report from the State of Washington. The report will be completed by President Abbott and submitted with a $10 fee.
¤ Joan Lovitt advised she has not had anyone sign up so far to do a certification class.
¤ Sylvia Martinez advised that three people have contacted her for membership information. She mailed information to them, but has not received anything back so far. President Abbott also identified two additional members: Randy Stedman and Kathy Carrington.
The meeting adjourned at 5:10pm. The next Board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 12, 2004, 4:00pm at Link Transit.
