III.       Board Reports

Programs

Jo Ann Tucker shared the following:

q      March Program Ð evaluations revealed that the program was well received. Ms. Rowe requested a letter of recommendation. Barbara Davis will write the letter, which Ms. Rowe can send out as she sees fit. Barbara also mentioned that she could send Ms. RoweÕs contact information to the SpeakerÕs Bureau.

YWCA Scholarship Ð There was a consensus to support a 2005 YWCA scholarship in Alice RoweÕs name.

q      Legacy Leadership Ð Jo Ann and Arlene Abbott met with Colin Brine of Upstream Northwest to put together a supervisory leadership program. From that meeting, a program was established with seven series topics identified (although, after Board discussion, it was decided to drop the topic on coaching), meet twice a month beginning in September from 7:30 Ð 9:00 am, charge $30 - $40 per person per session Ð or $225 for the series. It was also discussed to limit the program to 30 persons to allow for more personal interaction.

¯    Discussion ensued regarding scheduling classes: hold classes in 2Ð3 days versus twice a month. Discussion ended with a decision to return to Colin to discuss the best possible schedule, as well work out other details to be discussed at the next Board meeting; however, Gil asked that Steve Bobst be a part of that discussion along with Jo Ann and Arlene.

¯    Gil asked Ruth to promote the series in the upcoming newsletters.

Shaune Barton advised that she had met with Jesus Hernandez, who will speak on cultural awareness in our communities. The program will be approximately two hours long. Mr. Hernandez advised he will volunteer his time, however, materials will cost AVHRA approximately $250.

Discussion: The program should be about diversity in the workplace, as opposed to diversity in the community.

Joan Lovitt moved to fund the cost of materials after they have been reviewed by Shaune Barton and approved to meet AVHRAÕs program requirements. Steve Bobst seconded.

Discussion: None.

All present approved. Motion Passed.

Ruth Williams reported:

q      Newsletter deadlines are the same, but she needs the articles by the 3rd Thursday of the month in order to have enough time to put it all together.

¯    She advised that both were receptive to the idea of co-sponsoring the conference Ð with the responsibilities being divided among the three chapters. She shared that she volunteered AVHRA for programs, as we seem to excel in that arena.

¯    The conference would be held at the Tri-Cities Convention Center.

¯    All three chapters are about equal in memberships.
