I.               Welcome / Call to Order

President Barbara Davis called the meeting to order at 7:07 a.m.

 

II.        Review and Approval of the June Minutes

Karen Bland reported there were no changes or corrections noted for the minutes dated July 7, 2005. Annie Horey moved to accept the minutes as written. Sylvia Martinez seconded.

Discussion: None.

All present approved. Motion Passed.

 

III.       Board Reports

Programs

Jo Ann Tucker discussed the monthly programs:

July ÐViolence in the Workplace Ð Emerging Issues in Human Resources. Jo Ann advised that evaluations were very positive.

August Ð Cultural Competence in the Workplace, presented by Jesus Hernandez. There is a charge of $250 for handouts. The program will take place on August 25th.

September Ð Steve Bobst was able to connect with Cary Condotta, who will do a presentation at our September 30th meeting. More information will be forthcoming.

 

AVHRA Legacy Leadership Series Ð beginning on Tuesday, September 20th, a 6-week series being presented by Colin Brine. Brochures have been received from the printer Ð with inserts being added with timetable information. Series to be held at the Tech Center in Olds Station.

 

October Ð Exceptional Leadership: Are You Willing? Are You Able? Ð presented by Art Lange. Workshop scheduled for October 20th, 8:30am Ð 2:00pm.

November Ð 9th Annual Employment & Labor Law Update Ð presented by Gil Sparks. Luncheon meeting scheduled for November 17th. Discussion regarding what to charge. It was decided to await GilÕs return and discuss with him.

Board Reports continued

Programs, continued

December Ð Annual SHRM Foundation Silent Auction, scheduled for December 8th. Jo Ann advised the date, time, place and food have been arranged. We now need to work on auction items.

 

Courageous HR Ð Joan Lovitt and Jo Ann Tucker attended ÒCourageous HRÓ, which was held in Bellevue on July 21st. Jo Ann reported that it was an excellent program.

 

Diversity

The program on diversity was discussed in the above August programs report.

 

School to Work

List Turner was unable to attend Ð no report.

 

Membership

Sylvia Martinez reported the following:

¬    We have one new member.

¬    E-Mail List-Serve: What does the Board think of the possibility of signing up for an email list-serve networking program for AVHRA members? Discussion followed. We can do a sample network Ð members will have the opportunity to opt out. Sylvia will research the costs.

¬    It was suggested that Sylvia check member statuses. It appears that some current members are not listed on AVHRAÕs member list received monthly from SHRM.

 

Financial

Annie Horey reviewed the Balance Report, Register Report, and a recap report on the Violence in the Workplace seminar. Jo Ann Tucker moved to accept the Financial Report as written. Sylvia Martinez seconded.

Discussion: None.

All present approved. Motion Passed.

 

Publicity

Janice Soder was unable to attend this meeting, but did forward a report to President Davis via email. She reported:

¬    The same ad will appear in the Business Journal and the Wenatchee World.

¬    The announcement for the meeting has been sent to the Wenatchee World and Christine Pratt is her contact person. The announcement will be printed on Monday.

Board Reports, continued

Certification

Joan Lovitt was unable to attend. President Davis advised Joan has approximately five people who are interested in the fall certification class.

 

Legislative

Steve Bobst was unable to attend. However, he has arranged for Representative Cary Condotta to do a presentation at our September meeting.

 

SHRM Foundation / Auction

President Davis reported that she is working on the Auction. We will discuss selecting a sub-committee at the next board meeting.

 

Newsletters

Ruth Williams advised the following:

¬    Deadline for the September newsletter is August 20, 2005.

¬    Discussion regarding whether or not to move the newsletter to a bi-monthly or quarterly publication Ð to save on costs.

¬    Discussion regarding receiving the newsletter via email. No decision was made.

¬    Discussion regarding doing a member survey. Ideas for survey questions to go to President Davis.

 

2006 Board President

Melissa Wear-Grimm was unable to attend.

 

IV.          General Interest Items

President Davis advised the following:

1.     Wenatchee EXPO Ð October 12th.

2.     Superior Merit and Randy Lundberg Awards Ð will be presented at the NHRMA conference. These awards should be advertised in the newspaper to promote AVHRA. President Davis will check with NHRMA regarding a press release.

3.     Yakima Valley HR Association Ð forwarded information regarding their upcoming workshops conducted by Larry Hellie of HHRC2: Strategic Human Resource Management and The Changing Workforce Ð Aging, Globalization, Outsourcing and Immigration. Workshops are scheduled for Wednesday, September 21st.

4.     Letter from Co-President Gil Sparks Ð a bit about his bike across America trip.

5.     AVHRA Board 2006 composition Ð President Davis did an inquiry of members present if they wish to be on the ballot for the 2006 Board of Directors.
