Co-President Gil Sparks called the meeting to order at 7:00 a.m.
II. Joke of the Day
Gil shared a joke submitted by Melissa Wear-Grimm. Because he used MelissaÕs joke, her breakfast was paid by Gil.
Karen Bland reported that there were a few grammatical corrections, but no major changes to report. There were no other changes or corrections noted. Melissa Wear-Grimm moved to accept the minutes with changes noted. Annie Horey seconded.
Discussion: None.
All present approved. Motion Passed.
School-to-Work/Job Fair
Lisa Turner advised the following regarding the Job Fair (April 21st):
q Distributed a sign-up sheet for volunteer positions at the Job Fair.
q Needs to meet with the workshop panel (ÒHow Not to Lose Your Job Before You Get ItÓ). Panel will be Annie Horey, Shaune Barton, Gil Sparks, Melissa Wear-Grimm.
q Job Fair meeting on March 4th @ 10am. Lisa will not be able to be at this meeting and asked if there was anyone who could attend in her place. Gil Sparks and Karen Bland both advised they could possibly do it. Gil will check his schedule and advise Karen if he cannot attend.

Programs
Jo Ann Tucker shared the following information regarding programs:
February: Review Panel Ð How to Put Your Best Foot Forward. An ad will be placed in the Wenatchee Business Journal (Gil & Janice to coordinate).
March: Jo Ann Tucker gave kudos to Lisa Turner and Melissa Wear-Grimm for their work on the March brochure (Alice Rowe Ð ÒCanÕt We Just Get AlongÓ and ÒThe Wizard of OzÓ). The brochure will be put in the Chamber newsletter Ð Janice Soder will coordinate.
April: Kendal Callison Ð Introduction to International Human Relations (2.75 CR HR)
July: Jo Ann advised she has scheduled a program for July Ð which in the past has been a non-scheduled month. The program will be Violence in the Workplace & Emerging Issues in Human Resources.
December: It was discussed to have a comic theme to increase attendance; however, no firm decisions were made at this meeting.
Jo Ann also advised that most programs have been approved for credits.
TreasurerÕs Report
Treasurer Annie Horey reviewed the Account Balances Report and Register Report January 1, 2001 through February 3, 2005. Treasurer Horey advised the following:
q AVHRA is closing its account at Washington Trust.
q AVHRA is opening an account at Cashmere Valley Bank
q Treasurer Horey read a letter from Aaron Strong regarding the audit of the AVHRA books. Joy Neal made a motion to accept the audit results of the AVHRA books. Joan Lovitt seconded.
Discussion: None.
All present approved. Motion Passed.
Legislative
q Steve Bobst distributed and talked about several handouts: Employment Related Records in Washington, Small Business Report, WA Employment Law Letter, and HRinsight.
q Steve also shared information regarding L&I Retroactive Reporting by Gary VanCleve.

Membership
Sylvia Martinez advised the following:
q She is working on a spreadsheet regarding members.
q She receives a membership roster from SHRM on a quarterly basis. She explained the roster, as well as the sheet with additional names (at large members). Joy Neal advised we can receive the roster monthly if we contact Marilyn Hoppen.
q She began contacting past members Ð most have not renewed their memberships because their companies will not pay the dues. Discussion ensued regarding these members and how AVHRA can assist. It was decided to vote on a case-by-case basis to determine assistance with dues.
q Steve Bobst suggest we contact non-members and invite them to a meeting, perhaps even picking up the person and paying for their meal.
Janice Soder shared the following:
q She has published program announcements in several outside papers.
q AVHRA needs to announce its monthly program in the Wenatchee World at least two weeks in advance of the program.
q A suggestion was made to send a program calendar to the company leaders so they can better plan.
q It was also suggested to place program calendars on the tables at the monthly meetings.
Shaune Barton advised the following:
q She contacted SHRM regarding speakers on diversity.
q She talked about a diversity article in the Wenatchee World.
q We should definitely announce our diversity program in the Chamber newsletter.
Joan Lovitt advised the following:
q Janice Soder is the only person enrolled in a study group beginning in February for the test window in May.
q An article in the newsletter would be beneficial.
q She will bring a handout to the next general meeting in order to share information regarding certification.
q She suggested contacting SHRM regarding the possibility of changing certification criteria to include those persons who are in a non-exempt status, but work in the HR field.

Joy Neal shared the following information:
q NHRMA Board Ð they could not get Washington schools to support the student conference, but they will support the student games. The games are slated to begin sometime in March Ð they may need assistance with this.
q NHRMA Convention Ð Wenatchee did not make the list. Joy is lobbying for this as she feels Wenatchee meets all of NHRMAÕs convention criteria.
q Joy shared that Rene ZamoraÕs program was perfect for mission statements and programs.
q The 2005 NHRMA Convention is being hosted by Sun River, and the 2006 convention is will be in Spokane.
q The State Council meeting will be in Wenatchee in September 2005.
Newsletters
Via email from Ruth Williams:
q She needs newsletter articles by February 23, 2005.
SHRM Update
Melissa Wear-Grimm advised that we need to push membership. She shared information regarding SHRM Online and what it can do for the member. (Sylvia Martinez will bring copies to the next meeting). Both advised it would be a good reference guide.
SHRM Chapter Charter
SHRM has put together a Chapter Charter Agreement Ð rules to follow to be affiliated with SHRM. Gil will forward this to the Board.
February Meeting Greeters
Joy Neal, Joan Lovitt and Jo Ann Tucker.
Chapter Achievement Plan
Arlene Abbott completed the application and submitted it online. A hard copy will be sent to Co-Presidents Sparks and Davis.
Foundation Chapter Champion
2004-2005 has been submitted. Joy Neal explained criteria. Last year, our chapter was recognized as top contributor in the small chapter category.

AFLAC will sponsor the March program. They have agreed to AVHRAÕs ground rules.
Volunteer Opportunity Ð Civil Service Oral Boards
Gil shared information about this opportunity. He advised he spoke with Lynn Bourton about this and will get additional information and time commitment information to her. He suggested inviting Lynn to the next board meeting.
Business Journal Lunch Meeting
Gil Sparks, Barbara Davis and Janice Soder will be meeting with Darlene Schneider on February 11, 2005.

AVHRA received a thank you letter from the Wenatchee World for AVHRAÕs support.
Location of Board Meetings
After discussion, it was decided to continue to meet at the Roaster.
