Programs

Jo Ann Tucker discussed the monthly programs. Judith Clark program was a very fun and interesting meeting. Since Jo Ann was not at the meeting, no evaluation forms were distributed.

Colin BrineÕs June 29th program will have Lisa Turner to hand out evaluations.

August and September will be Lynn Bourton and Arlene Abbott, respectively. Fall is lined up with Art Lange and Gil Sparks at this time. Barbara Davis is looking into sites for our December auction. Apple AnnieÕs in Cashmere is one location she is looking into

Diversity

Arlene and Melissa attended the Hispanic Wenatchee Chamber of Commerce banquet, with over 270 people in attendance.

Arlene is looking into a diversity event to be sponsored by AVHRA. This event would include a video presentation as well as a Q&A in the afternoon. Arlene had researched possible speakers for the event. She passed around flyers on two speakers which might be appropriate for the event. The first speaker was Victor Villa Senor who has presented to schools and to teacher groups on one race one family. Arlene has heard from multiple sources that he is very dynamic. The second speaker was Richard Santana, a tough talking Latino gangster. He uses this approach to demonstrate gang attitudes and behaviors. He talks about his life and changes he went through after leaving the gang life. The suggestion was made to have AVHRA pay for the speaker and collect the fees, but to see what other organizations might be interested in supporting the event. Annie Horey noted

that there is money in the CD to help sponsor the event and The Chelan County PUD could help with the printing of advertising material, and perhaps the Wenatchee World might comp the advertising.

Annie Horey moved to let Arlene secure Richard Santana. Joan Lovitt seconded.

Discussion: None.

All present approved. Motion Passed.

The fourth week of September was identified as the best timing for the diversity program due to the NHRMA Conference.

School to Work

Lynn Bourton discussed a August 17th program which would work with the NW Technical Skills Center. The program would focus on how to integrate graduates from the center into jobs in the community. The center has used a powerpoint presentation in the past to teach participants job hunting skills. The center would like the program to be interactive with the employers in the community. A possible draw for employers to come to the program might be the opportunity to come to the center for a tour.

Membership

Sylvia Martinez was not present

Publicity

Janice Soder indicated that we will continue to use the Wenatchee World for advertising programs on Sunday/Tuesday/Thursday. It was also reported that the WBJ will have a press release announcing the AVHRA superior merit award.

Janice reported that ads in the Wenatchee World for the Tuesday/Thursday/Sunday rate is $714.00 Running the ad just one time would cost $342.30 for Sunday only. It was noted that the ad would need to run for the prior two Sundays to be effective. One option is to extend our deadline to the Monday before the program if we decide to pursue this type of advertising. Melissa would rather keep the advertising as it is currently.

The issue was raised concerning the flyer for JuneÕs program with Colin Brine. It was noted it lacks substance. Janice will pursue with Colin to obtain something more substantial for the June program flyer. Needs to be content based advertising and state the target audience.

Certification

Joan Lovitt had nothing new to report on certification.
